Summer Job in Power System Modeling

About the Position

Svenska kraftnät is now seeking an engineering student with programming experience who wants to learn more about the power system. You will belong to the Planning Models unit, which consists of 13 engaged power system specialists. The unit's overall responsibility is to manage and develop power system models in the simulation software PSS®E. These power system models are used for static and dynamic analyses to plan the future power system.

The position is located at one of our offices in Sundbyberg or Luleå.

Your Responsibilities

In your role in the Planning Models unit, you will evaluate how current limits on lines are modeled in PSS®E. Existing limits need to be analyzed, and how new types of limits should be applied will be evaluated. This will be done using Python and by utilizing Svenska kraftnät's asset register.

You will have the opportunity to apply your programming skills for a power system-related purpose and a chance to learn more about how the power system is structured. You will also have the chance to exchange experiences with colleagues about what Svenska kraftnät is working on in a time when a lot is happening in the industry.

Your Background

You are studying an engineering program at a university. Furthermore, you have experience in:

• Studying a specialization in electrical power or equivalent during your engineering education.
• Completed courses in programming and have previously coded in Python.
• Fluent in both Swedish and English, spoken and written.

In addition, we would like you to:

• Have completed at least two years of your education.
• Have applied your programming skills in a larger project.

Your Personal Qualities

To perform your tasks, it is important that you are structured and can approach a larger task methodically. We are looking for someone who is good at problem-solving and can take initiative and make improvement suggestions, but at the same time is not afraid to ask for advice or support when you get stuck. You will work somewhat independently but will also have some dialogue with colleagues and should therefore enjoy both individual work and collaboration within the unit.
